Video game consoles have brought families and friends together, playing fun multiplayer games that instilled excitement and laughter into the room. What is your favourite retro console? In this blog, we will be going through the bestselling retro consoles of all time.

Game Boy

The Game Boy is a handheld game console with a simple look and the ability to play multiple games such as Super Mario Land, Tetris, Pac Man and many more. This is an 8-bit handheld game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo, this was released in 1989 being seen first by the Japanese public. Europe and North America didn’t have access to the Game boy until much later.

The Game Boy sold more than 118.69 million units worldwide, becoming one of Nintendo’s most successful consoles of all time. This console features a green dull screen with an adjustable volume dial accompanied with two pink buttons and arrow keys to control your game.

This handheld console was perfect for children who loved playing video games, and something portable so that they can play games on the go wherever they travel. Switching between multiple games to continue the endless enjoyment of playing Gameboy.

SEGA Genesis

The SEGA Genesis is a 16-bit retro game console that was fourth generation created and developed by SEGA. SEGA was released in 1988 in Japan and one of the most popular models, the SEGA genesis sold over 30.75 million units worldwide.

SEGA Genesis success derived from the ability to hold a library of famous arcade games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, various sports video game franchises and many more. Most of the marketing was aimed at the adolescent, which ultimately spiked sales for the SEGA Genesis that was child friendly and appealing to younger children.

This console was a child’s prized possession, coming home from a long day at school and jumping on the SEGA Genesis to relax.

Dream Cast

Dreamcast helped to change the video game console community with its simple but yet powerful gaming system being able to hold a variety of retro video games to explore and enjoy with family and friends. Dreamcast games were very entertaining featuring Sonic Adventure, Power Stone and Streetfighter which became the main inspiration for Mortal Kombat

The Dreamcast was created and released in 1998 by SEGA, this was the sixth generation of video game consoles. Once the Dreamcast was released to the US public, Dreamcast did very well but declined once Sony started to build hype around their next console, the PlayStation 2.

Dreamcast paved the way for most modern video game consoles, using the Dreamcast as inspiration to design a better console in the future and increase technology used to create video game consoles.
